LSI Logic releases low-cost DSP solution for emerging voice over network applicationsNew ZSP standard product delivers 600 MIPS at peak performance with a low power consumption per channel and backwards compatibility for ease of useMILPITAS, Calif., March 6, 2001 - LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE:
LSI), today announced the introduction of the LSI403Z to its growing
family of ZSP digital signal processor standard products. Based on LSI
Logic's ZSP400™ core, the LSI403Z extends LSI Logic's standard product
portfolio and is ideal for use in Small Office Home Office (SOHO) and
residential gateway applications. These applications deploy and manage
high-speed Internet access, web-based call centers, and other applications
that require technology support for high quality voice and data
service. The LSI403Z is housed in a 208-pin PQFP package and operates at 150 MHz
for a maximum throughput of 600 million instructions per second (MIPS).
This is achieved via a four way superscalar engine with four execution
units; two multiply accumulate units (MACs) and two arithmetic logic units
(ALUs). This functionality allows the LSI403Z to execute two
multiply-accumulate operations in a single clock cycle deliver
high-performance while consuming only 1m W/MIPS (typical) of power. In
addition, single cycle add-compare-select, bit-manipulation and 32-bit
arithmetic and logic operations are supported for optimal performance. The
LSI403Z is available now and priced at $8.86 in volume shipments of
50K. LSI Logic's ZSP open architecture is supported with standard products,
and CoreWare® solutions for LSI Logic's Flexstream® ASIC design system as
well as a licensable soft core for an array of DSP supply options. LSI
Logic's ZSP architecture has been optimized to improve programmer
productivity and time-to-market by supporting a full range of tools for
programming, debugging, simulation, verification and modeling. The ZSP
architecture is supported by a growing list of software Solution Partners
including Hellosoft, Espico, Green Hills and Vocal Technologies to name a
few. To find out more about the ZSP architecture and the ZSP Solutions
Partner Program, visit the website at http://www.zsp.com/ or email dsp-mkt@zsp.com. LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) is a leading designer and
manufacturer of communications and storage semiconductors for applications
that access, interconnect and store data, voice and video. In addition,
the company supplies storage network solutions for the enterprise. LSI
